Tree Service FAQs

Straight answers to the questions Dutchess County homeowners ask us most.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, Shawn gives every estimate himself, and it costs you nothing. He walks the property with you, looks at the tree and explains your options in plain terms. Then you get a clear price before any work begins, with no obligation to book. You can also request one online through our assessment form.

How do I check a tree company's insurance?

Before any tree work starts, ask the company for a certificate of insurance. The insurer issues it, and it lists the policy, the coverage limits and the dates. That matters because an uninsured crew can leave an injury or a damaged roof as your claim. So do not let anyone start on a verbal promise, and ask every company you call.

What areas do you serve?

We serve 23 towns across Dutchess County, NY, working out of Poughkeepsie. They include Wappingers Falls, Fishkill, Beacon, Hyde Park, Rhinebeck, Red Hook and Pleasant Valley. If your town is not on that list, call and ask before you rule us out.

How soon can you come out after a storm?

If a power line is down or anyone is in danger, call 911 or your utility first. After that, timing depends on the damage, the weather and how many calls come in at once. Even so, reviewers say Shawn came out quickly after past storms. For example, Jude J. wrote that the crew "fitted us in the next morning before the predicted afternoon storms."

How much do your tree services cost?

Price depends on the tree's size, its condition, and how easily equipment can reach it. A tree in an open yard costs less than the same tree leaning over a roof. That is why Shawn looks at every job in person before he gives you a number. Our tree service cost page explains what moves the price up or down.

Do you clean up and haul away debris?

Yes, cleanup is part of every job, and reviewers mention it often. The crew chips the branches, hauls the wood away and clears the work area before leaving. As Cory M. put it, "the clean up was flawless thank you guys".

Can you tell me whether a tree should be removed or saved?

Often, yes, because many trees stay healthy for years with the right pruning or cabling. However, others have too much damage or decay to leave standing near a house. Shawn looks at the tree in person and tells you honestly which group it falls in. If it needs nothing yet, he will say so.

How can I pay for tree work?

Customers pay by credit card or cash, and both come up in our Google reviews. So ask Shawn about payment when he gives the estimate, and there are no surprises on the day. One customer, Curt K., wrote, "Paid with my credit card which made it very convenient."

Who is responsible when a neighbor's tree falls on my property?

Generally, your own homeowner's insurance covers storm damage on your side of the property line. However, that can change if the owner ignored a tree they knew was dead or dangerous. Photograph everything before anyone moves it, then call your insurer with the details. Our guide, Who Is Responsible for a Fallen Tree, explains how this works in New York.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

It depends on your town, because each Dutchess County town writes its own tree rules. For example, the Town of Fishkill requires a permit for any tree 18 inches in diameter or more. In contrast, several rural towns have no dedicated tree chapter at all. Our Service Areas page compares the rules town by town and cites each code.
