Clinton is a small rural town of 4,037 people at the 2020 census, down from 4,312 in 2010. Clinton Corners is its best-known hamlet, in the southeast of the town. The Taconic State Parkway also runs through the middle.

The town dates to the Great Nine Partners Patent of 1697. Later, a 1734 survey classed the Clinton Corners strip as good land. Today, properties here still run to acreage, with woodlot edges, hedgerows and mature trees around old farmhouses.

So typical needs include removing standing dead and clearing around structures. Dead ash is the usual suspect, since emerald ash borer has reached nearly every New York county.

Local rules

No tree chapter, but read the rest

We found no dedicated tree ordinance in the Town of Clinton code. As a result, a normal residential removal needs no tree-specific permit.

Wetland and watercourse protections apply on their own terms, and larger clearing can pull in site plan review.

On a rural parcel, the real limit is rarely the town. It is access: whether a chipper can reach the tree.

Tree service in Clinton Corners: common questions

How do I know if my ash trees are infested?

Watch for bark splitting in long strips and a canopy dying back from the top. Also, tiny D-shaped exit holes in the bark point to emerald ash borer. DEC reports that infested ash usually die within two to four years.

Is it cheaper to do several trees at once?

Yes, and noticeably so. That is because much of the cost of a rural job is getting the crew and equipment to you. Once we are set up, each extra tree costs far less than a separate visit.

Can you get equipment onto a soft field?

Sometimes, and sometimes we wait. Frozen winter ground gives the best access all year, especially on a rural parcel. If the ground is soft, we will say so rather than leave ruts across your field.

Are trees along the Taconic Parkway mine to cut?

Usually not, because the parkway corridor belongs to the state. The whole road is also on the National Register of Historic Places. If a parkway tree threatens your property, report it to the state rather than cutting it.
