Local Tree Care in Fishkill

GXB Precision Tree Care takes on tree removal, trimming and stump grinding throughout the Town of Fishkill. Fishkill is about 14 miles, roughly 22 minutes, from Poughkeepsie. Big oaks here can trip the town's 18-inch permit rule, so we measure first. Call (518) 960-6057 or request a free estimate for your Fishkill trees.

Fishkill climbs from sea level on the Hudson to about 1,600 feet on South Beacon Mountain. Fishkill Creek crosses the town from east to west, and the town wraps around the City of Beacon. That range gives you village streets, creek lots and steep wooded slopes in one town.

Interstate 84 and US 9 cross here, so plenty of homes sit near busy road corridors. Up the slopes toward the Highlands, grade decides how a removal gets done. On a hillside, the crew lowers every piece under control instead of dropping it.

The Town also has a hard number in its code, and it catches people mid-project.

Places we work in and around Fishkill

Village of Fishkill

The Village of Fishkill sits on US 9 beside Fishkill Creek, with Route 52 as its main street. It is a separate municipality with its own tree chapter, so the Town's rules do not carry over. Trinity Church on Hopewell Avenue dates from 1760, which tells you how old the center is.

Brinckerhoff

Brinckerhoff is a hamlet of about 3,400 people in the town's northeast corner. A small part of it runs north into the Town of Wappinger. So check which town you are in before you lean on Fishkill's 18-inch rule.

Glenham

Glenham is a hamlet about two and a half miles east-northeast of Beacon, with its own post office since 1839. When Beacon became a city in 1913, it took only a small part of Glenham from the Town of Fishkill. The rest still falls under the Town's Chapter 140, not Beacon's permit process.

Merritt Park

Merritt Park is a small community just east of Fishkill village. Fishkill Creek bounds it to the north, and 904-foot Honness Mountain rises to the southeast. Toward the mountain the ground climbs, and grade shapes how a removal gets rigged.

Local rules

The 18-inch rule in the Town of Fishkill

The Town of Fishkill regulates tree removal under Chapter 140, Tree Preservation. You need a clearing and tree removal permit before removing any tree eighteen inches or more in diameter.

Normal maintenance works differently. Selective removal of limbs, and removal of dead or diseased trees, can go ahead without the clearing permit.

Measure before you book. Eighteen inches of diameter is roughly a fifty-seven inch tape around the trunk. Plenty of mature Fishkill oaks are well past it. The Village of Fishkill is a separate municipality with its own tree chapter.

Tree service in Fishkill: common questions

How do I know if my tree is over the 18-inch threshold in Fishkill?

Run a tape around the trunk at about chest height and divide by 3.14. Eighteen inches of diameter is about a fifty-seven inch circumference. If you are close to the line, assume you are over it and ask the Town before work starts.

My tree is dead. Does the Fishkill permit still apply?

Chapter 140 treats removal of dead or diseased trees as normal maintenance, not clearing. Even so, "dead" should be an honest assessment, not a convenient one. We will tell you plainly which one you have.

Why does a removal on a Fishkill hillside cost more than the same tree on flat ground?

Because access drives the price, and grade destroys access. On a slope the chipper cannot get close, and footing is poor. The crew has to lower every piece downhill under control instead of dropping it.

I live in Brinckerhoff. Is that Fishkill or Wappinger?

Mostly Fishkill. Brinckerhoff sits in the Town of Fishkill's northeast corner, but a small part extends into the Town of Wappinger. Check your tax bill, because the 18-inch rule is a Town of Fishkill law.
